Hi all;
Is Bora Bora worth the extra expense and time to go to (if you are not wealthy), or would Mo'orea and Tahiti do?

Tue, February 1, 2005 - 2:12 PMIf you haven't already gone - Bora Bora was i thought over rated - I preferred the island of Moorea - It was even more beautiful than Bora Bora!! If you do go to Bora Bora - check out Bloody Marys! Its a fun place to go for drinks! -

Wed, February 2, 2005 - 6:20 PMYeah I just went to mo'orea and skipped BB. Instead of staying at a hotel like all the jerks I stayed at a friend's house. It was so cool! Besides, the hotels on bora bora are five-star priced with three-star quality. -

Thu, February 3, 2005 - 11:31 AMYes indeed. Check my pictures. I'm the one who's not French. haha
Looks like you have done some excellent diving yourself judging by the night dive with rays photos. I'm going diving in Maui next week, ever dove there? -

Re: Bora Bora - Worth it?
Thu, February 3, 2005 - 11:47 AMYes, I actually got my open water certification in Maui in 3 days!!! Yes 3 days!! that was back in 1999 -
In 2004 went to Playa Del Carmen and got my advanced open water certification - yep you guessed it, in 3 days!
For a nice boat dive that's NOT a cattle boat - book a spot with Ed Robinson's crew. And a MUST place to dive is Molokini Crater!! I want to see photo's when you return!! Have fun and happy diving!! :o)

Re: Bora Bora - Worth it?
Wed, March 16, 2005 - 12:41 PMYeah, we didn't end up diving with that guy. He's as overhyped as he is overpriced. We went with pacific dive, made friends with all the workers and ended up partying with them on a couple of occasions.
Maui was OK but next time it's Moloka'i or bust. I hate going to someplace exotic and having to walk behind Mertyle and Merle from Wisonsin while they talk about how great the steak at the Bubba Gump's is. It's really sad to go from somewhere like Mo'orea where the native culture is alive and the language is being spoken everywhere to somewhere like the valley isle of Maui where the Hawai'ians are subsumed completely and not one in ten speaks a lick of Hawai'ian. Moloka'i is supposed to be way more rural and more like "Old Hawai'i". Anyone have experience there?

Re: Bora Bora - Worth it?
Thu, February 3, 2005 - 3:13 PMI was on a ship that stopped at 5 islands. (Arnt I special) Oh, I did this twice in 1995 & 96. The first time I rode a bike the 18 miles around Bora-Bora, which was incredible. No traffic, great views. There is a jeep path up a mtn on the north side, that looks down on the most beautiful water, so many shades of blue/green!!!!! A really sexy guy in native attire showed us around and cut some pineapples for us. He was in US the 2nd year.
Morea was nice, but not as beautiful as B-B or Huahine. Cooks bay is nice, but its so crowded compared to the others. I didnt have to pay for a hotel, they are pretty outrageous on B-B. -
